Stuffed Artist’s Statement:
I challenge what is art and what is not art.
Context is everything.

Stuffed Artist’s Statement:
I am highly influenced by American Mid-Century Abstract Expressionists. However, because I cannot move on my own, I utilize a process called inaction painting. My assistant dips my tentacles in paint, and I direct her to move the canvas in order to create the expressive pattern I desire.

Stuffed Artist’s Statement:
When I arrived at The SARF, I had a large sign attached to my body. It advertised the fact that I am from Guam. And while I am proud of that, I decided to undergo surgery to remove the sign, allowing me more flexibility of movement. This is a choice that many stuffed animals make – removing extraneous objects that limit their lifestyles. My artwork utilizes pieces that have been removed from stuffed animals during surgeries at The SARF.

Stuffed Artist’s Statement:
I source damaged canvases for my textile work. Like rescued stuffed animals, I rescue damaged and unwanted materials from becoming fodder for landfills. I incorporate embroidery and stuffing to create graphic pieces out of trash.

Stuffed Artist’s Statement:
Stuffed animals are often sleep companions of their living companions. Though most of us relish this role, it has often been stressful for me. I have struggled with severe bouts of insomnia for many years. And because I cannot close my eyes, it’s hard for my living companions to know when I’m having trouble sleeping- so I rarely get the comfort and support I need. I became an artist over the course of years of sleepless nights- thinking about and planning and working on pieces in my head. My art is about the night: the things that happen when living companions are asleep…

Recent Work: “Discovered Rectangles” cardboard and spray paint

Unlike some of my fellow stuffed artists, I’ve decided not to protest The SARF Headquarters. They have given me a chance to show my work in an all-stuffed-artist show! I’ve never had such an amazing opportunity before. I think their commission fees are very reasonable and quite comparable to other galleries where I’ve shown my work. I encourage you to see the group show, The Still Life, on Sundays at The SARF HQ. You can see my work and the work of some of my stuffed colleagues, as well. It’s pretty groundbreaking work.

I have been exploring the media of dryer lint and resin for many years. Since completing my MFA in 2017, I have been featured in a variety of group shows, but this is the first time I have participated in an all-stuffed-animal-artist show. I think my work is particularly pertinent in this setting. Stuffies are the stuff of lint and microfiber, after all. This piece showcases a variety of lint hues juxtaposed with vibrant cast resin. It is symbolic of the wide range of colors and species in the stuffed animal world.
