Alice

Alice is one of our youngest participants, having just graduated from The University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop in 2019. In 2021, she was been featured in The New Yorker’s 20 Under 20″ yearly anthology of the most promising new stuffed writers under 20 inches tall. Alice uses humor, satire, and memory to explore the most pressing issues facing stuffies today.

Darius Esperanza

Darius Esperanza is an award-winning Mexican-American stuffed writer. She creates colorful, poetic stories drawing from her experiences as a young migrant stuffy, having spent her early years being transferred between living companions in Mexico and the United States. Darius Esperanza explores themes of cultural identity and economic inequality.

Dolphin Fisher Walrus

Dolphin Fisher Walrus is one of the most fascinating writer’s of his generation. His unique ability to combine astute social observation with
biting wit, unapologetic absurdity, obscure encyclopedic knowledge, and a mathematician’s attention to detail, make him a once-in-a-generation talent. Despite his penchant for the absurd, Walrus’ is also capable of the most beautifully poetic prose, as evident in his featured piece, the surprisingly-Steinbeckian first chapter in his last epic novel.

Elena is The Stuffed Animal Rescue Foundation’s current Writer-in-Residence. She is documenting day-to-day activities at The SARF Headquarters through a series of haiku. Elena has an MFA from The University of Michigan, and her poems and short stories have been published in McStuffy’s, Hoofshares, and American Stuffed Fiction.

Gretch

Gretch is a prolific children’s author, poet, illustrator, and cartoonist. He is best known for his whimsical rhyming poetry, often featuring fictional stuffed species of his own invention. He has published dozens of books, including The Stuffed Cat is a Hat, and One Stitch, Two Stitch, Red Stitch, Blue Stitch, a semi-autobiographical memoir about his trip to the SA emergency room after suffering a seam rip while on a book tour in Europe.

Jean is an athlete, a poet, and a novelist. He attended Columbia University where he was active in its intramural football program for stuffed animals until suffering a career-ending injury. Jean has traveled extensively throughout the country, often writing about his adventures with other stuffies.

Whit

Whit was born on Long Island, New York. Before fully devoting herself to poetry (and motherhood), she worked in the publishing industry, in addition to serving as editor of the Brooklyn Plush Eagle. She is known for her free verse style and her unpretentious use of language that is meant to appeal to the common stuffy.
