Stuffed Artist’s Statement:
Look around you. The vast majority of the stuffies you see are 100% plastic. Polyester, to be exact. We are made of petroleum: myself included. Some of my critics have argued that my art is a form of self-hate. This is far from the case. I am simply bringing attention to the fact that stuffed animal overpopulation/over-purchasing isn’t just a matter of running out of space on one’s bed. Over the last several decades, stuffies have shifted from natural materials to polyester, and the cost of purchasing stuffies has plummeted. This has contributed to the problem of stuffy overpopulation and homelessness that The Stuffed Animal Rescue Foundation is attempting to combat. Stuffed animal quality has also plummeted. Important note: I am only speaking of physical quality, not emotional, intellectual, or moral quality. I simply encourage my viewers to think twice before impulse-purchasing a new stuffy from a grocery store- especially when there are so many homeless stuffies in need.
