Whit was born on Long Island, New York. Before fully devoting herself to poetry (and motherhood), she worked in the publishing industry, in addition to serving as editor of the Brooklyn Plush Eagle. She is known for her free verse style and her unpretentious use of language that is meant to appeal to the common stuffy.
